Child Sponsorship and Development
The
Church of the Nazarene through NCM Child Development / Child Sponsorship Program (CS)
provides educational assistance and holistic development interventions to more
than 9,000 children living in poverty around the world.
The program has two target group of children
1) children of pastors in the developing countries,
2) Non-PKs (pastors' kids) that are
living in poverty and "at risk."
The Church of the Nazarene has Child Development and Sponsorship programs in 81 countries.
The
Holistic Child Development ministry model provides development activities
to children within the community of partner local Nazarene churches. In some cases the
child development center is an organized primary and secondary school for underprivileged
kids in the community.
Activities might
include:
- Academic tutorials or formal education
- Spiritual development of
children (and their parents)
- Health and nutrition monitoring (some centers
integrates feeding program for the malnourished kids)
- Life skills training for
children
- Culture enrichment activities
- Family empowerment (i.e. parenting
skills training)
- Socio-emotional development activities for children.
The over-all goal is to restore the dignity
of children by helping them achieve their God-given potentials.
Many centers are residential care program for street children, the orphans, children
affected by war, and trafficked children.
